Britain’s Defense Secretary Resigns After Improper Behavior

LONDON — Defense Secretary Michael Fallon has resigned after allegations emerged about inappropriate sexual behavior, the British government said.
Fallon said in a letter Wednesday to Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May that he may have "fallen short of the high standards" expected of the military.
A newspaper reported earlier that Fallon had repeatedly touched a journalist's knee.

t is one of a growing number of allegations about inappropriate behavior by British politicians and parliamentary staff.
British Prime Minister Theresa May had ordered an investigation into claims one of her senior deputies made inappropriate advances to a Conservative activist, as allegations spread of sexual harassment and abuse in British politics.

NLC Drags Nigeria to the International Labour Organisation

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has dragged Nigeria to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for non-payment of salaries and proscription of trade unions in Kogi State. There are also indications that the NLC may embark on rallies and protest soon to put pressure on the Federal Government to kick-start negotiation on the new minimum wage. President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba, said the NLC dragged Nigeria to ILO because of the proscription of labour unions by the Kogi State government as well as non-payment of salaries, which constitute breach of ILO core conventions. He stated that Kogi State could not be taken to the ILO because treaties and conventions are signed by nations and Kogi State is only an arm of the Federal Government. Mugabe Calls for The Reintroduction of Death Penalty.

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has called for the death penalty to be reintroduced. His comments come after a justice ministry official revealed last month that more than 50 people applied for the post of hangman. The last execution in Zimbabwe was in 2005 when its hangman retired, the AFP news agency reports. Speaking at the burial of a political ally in the capital, Harare, the 93-year-old leader said: Let's restore the death penalty. People are playing with death by killing each other. Is this why we liberated this country? We want this country to be a peaceful and happy nation, not a country with people who kill each other."

Gunmen kidnap Asaba-based businesswoman in Delta

A middle-aged business woman (name withheld) in Asaba was in the early hours yesterday kidnapped by unidentified gunmen. The victim was said to have been kidnapped around her house located at the Junior Staff Quarters, Asaba by heavily armed hoodlums, who shot sporadically into the air for several minutes before executing their nefarious acts.  It was gathered that the abductors went to the house of the victim, where she was about stepping out and tied the husband while they asked the other members of the family to lie down at gunpoint before they hurriedly dragged their victim into one of her cars and drove off to an unknown destination. Investigation revealed that the kidnap suspects abandoned the vehicle belonging to their victim and transferred the victim into their waiting operational vehicle and zoomed off. An explosion and inferno at a fireworks factory near the Indonesian capital on Thursday killed at least 47 people, most of them female workers, and injured dozens, police said. Witnesses said a huge explosion was heard from the factory at about 10 a.m. and then smaller blasts echoed across the neighborhood as orange flames jumped from the building and columns of black smoke billowed from it. Hary Kurniawan, chief of police in the Jakarta satellite city of Tangerang, said all the bodies recovered so far were found in the remains of the factory.
